Wes Anderson’ Films Comedic Style Studies

Comedy is the product of the human beings’ wisdom and sense. It is the works displayed by people in means of humorous and critical method in their sensible and sober brains when they are confronted with the ignorance, absurdity, evil and provinciality of the society. The comedy style of the film includes audio-visual language permeated with the comedy sense in the artistic works and the comedy spirit which encourage people in the works. Only the two kinds of these could produce the real valuable works.In recent years, the independent filmmaker Wes Anderson, whose films are gradually be recognized by all major film fest from the original independent film award to current Berlin International Film Fest, basing the art as supreme standard and Oscar which bases the political and commercial factors as the standard. Apart from the recognition of professional public praise, the public’s going for of his works has gradually improved. Although Wes Anderson only has 8 pieces of movies, the movies are of varieties with steady personal style which has also been improved. The dry humor in his film always keeps unchangeable and is fantastic as usual in the performance. It also passes down the comedy spirit in filmers’ minds when people watch the movies.This paper bases the comedy movie of Wes Anderson and his film’s style as the example. By analyzing the relations among comedy movie and independent movie activity, European artistic film and Hollywood movie, we originate the causes of the unique cold humor comedy style and divide the comedy style Wes Anderson into the comedy elements and comedy spirit to convey this paper, finally form a series of experience and enlightenment that is helpful for the development of Chinese comedy movies.This paper traced the formation of comedy style in Weiss Anderson’s films in the first chapter, and analyzed the influence of the independent film movement, European art films and the Hollywood film the causes of the comedy style; In addition, it will summarize the formation process and features of the cold humor comedy drama. The second chapter of this paper analyzed the important part- comedy elements in the audio-visual language of the comedy style in Weiss Anderson movie, which was explained through the four aspects of characters creation, scenery and color, lens and music, and details. The third chapter of this paper analyzed another part of the comedy style in Weiss Anderson movie- the convey of the comedy spirit, and analyzed the characteristics of the comic spirit in the topics of core family, growth, culture and war by using the theoretical basis of comedy spirit such as optimistic, self-confidence, satirical criticism, the pursuit of freedom, and the rational beyond. Combining with the above analysis on the comedy style of Weiss Anderson’s film, the fourth chapter mined its enlightenment for the contemporary Chinese comedy movies: art and commerce, interest and depth, director characteristics and the general public to embrace the perfect balance; And put forward concrete suggestions for the development of Chinese comedy movie under these three points of the construction of the industrial structure, the improvement of the overall aesthetic level, the creation of director characteristics as well as China’s whole comedy style.
