The piano version of "Meihua Sannong" was adapted by the composer Wang Jianzhong from its Guqin masterpiece in 1973; "Yangguansandie" was recomposed by Li Yinghai on the basis of its homonymic Guqin music in 1978. The two musical compositions, both the adaptations of Chinese Guqin music by contemporary composers, count for piano playing and instrument. In addition, they have the congenial subject of "Sannong" and "Sandie" in the music form, which brings about the necessary value for their comparison.Adapting Guqin music to the piano work, is undoubtedly an unprecedented attempt in artistic performance, unrevealing the unique artistic charm of Guqin music as well. The piano versions of "Meihua Sannong" and "Yangguansandie" have fully presented our traditional Guqin culture with their multi-voice and stereoscopic performance mode. In producing, the composers intended to integrate the traditional Guqin art with western piano music to display piano performance techniques as well as the aesthetic tendency of Chinese traditional music. In this way, the piano’s openness and Guqin’s conservativeness are able to bring out the best in each other.
