A Report On The Application Of Conversion In The Translation Of Scientific And Technical Texts

This translation report mainly introduces the application of conversion in the translation of scientific and technical texts.Scientific and technical text is a kind of informative text,and expression is important when translating this kind of texts.It means that its ideas should be conveyed accurately when translating from source language into target language.In order to make the language fluency,concise and easy for readers to understand on the basis of conveying the original information of the text accurately,the translation of the material is based on parts of speech conversion theory from Catford’s Translation Shift Theory.After consulting related literatures and articles of scientific and technical texts,the author put forward several common types of conversion in translation of scientific and technical texts by giving examples based on the translation study and knowledge accumulation of this kind of texts in this report.Due to the difference between the logical way of thinking,the expression way,the syntactic structure and the rhetorical method,the translation technique of conversion is often used in translation.The author summarizes and analyzes the translation task assigned by the teacher and the translation material of Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.In order to make the language accurate and fluency,the author introduced how to apply conversion in translation of scientific and technical text,such as conversion between nouns,verbs,adjectives,adverbs.
