The Various Faces

Zhao Mei holds sway among the contemporary literature writers of China’s ethnic minorities.Her unique female awareness,sparkling intellectual’s wisdom and combination of Chinese and Western cultural elements have won high acclaim for her works,and aroused researchers’ attention.This paper proceeds from a brand-new research perspective,namely “identity composition”,to interpret Zhao mei’s literature composition,attempting to make new contributions to studies of ZHAO Mei.This paper proceeds from three writing identities represented by ZHAO Mei’s works,and illustrates these three identities based on Zhao mei’s works and life background.Chapter 1 is about the female identity composition.With female awareness as the clue,changes of Zhao’s attitude towards feminism are explored,and the maternal care ubiquitous in her writing is pointed out.Chapter 2 is the intellectual identity composition.Human care,reflections and history and reality,and humanity-based contemplation are hidden elements of Zhao’s works.This is decided by her identity as an intellectual.Chapter 3 is the national cultural identity composition.This Chapter attempts to examine influence of Zhao’s memories of her own national culture and the culture of the Chinese nation on her writing,and analyze why she combines Chinese and Western cultural elements.Finally,challenges which might confront ethnic minority literature during the “modernized” context inheritance process are listed,and Zhao’s writing is adopted as an example to prove that these challenges can be turned into opportunities to develop ethnic minority literature.
