In January 2006,approved by the State Council,ivory carving was inscribed on the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.It was nominated by Chongwen district and Guangzhou simultaneously..Guangzhou is one of the typical region of ivory carving and formed a unique carving techniques and work characteristics here.Guangzhou ivory-carving has acheived a high level of skill and aesthetic value.Guangzhou ivory-carving embodies the spirit of the craftsman which is worthy of inheritance and development.Guangzhou ivory-carving at present owing to the shortage of the raw material is facing extremly difficulties in heritage and development.This research report focuses on the material basis of the ivory-carving,guided by the theory of Arts,and in accordance with the theories and regulations of the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage.it will look at the "Materials" that how to influence the shapes,subjects,motifies of Guangzhou Ivory craft Exploration the embarrassed situation of the ivory carving which is facing the ivory missing at the present,To explorarte how the Guangzhou Ivory-carving adapt to the objective situation and how to safeguard the inheritance and sustainable development of the ivory carving.Lacking of ivory material is not only the biggest difficulty for Guangzhou ivorycarving but also the biggest difficulty for Beijing ivory-carving and Shanghai ivory-carving.The investigation focused on the problem of Guangzhou Ivory material shortage in order,to find countermeasures and suggestions.Hoping that it can be used for the the reference of the safeguarding of ivory carving practice in Beijing,Shanghai.
