The Effect Of Physical Order On Self-interest Behaviour And Its Boundary Condition

In daily life,people always be involved in surrounded physical order,physical environment constitute the survival space for every individual,one could try to change the physical environment to achieve psychological adaptability,however,physical environment itself shape human behavior in many times,for example,some crazy action would be induced if someone is being in a noisy bar,but you might be keep quiet spontaneously when you are have a visit in hospital.Physical order is the degree of orderliness,regularity and pattern and the rationality of its place.Many previous research have confirmed the effect of physical order on negitive behaviours,such as cheating,deceiting and violated from norms,these behaviours could all be drove by the common motivation,egoism.Based on World-is-random theory,Information processing prespective and Goal-framing theory,the current study investigated the effect of physical order on self-interest behaviour and the moderation effect of personal need for structual.This study consists of three experiments,data was collected from 214 college students.The results are as follows:Firstly,compared with orderly psysical environment,people in disorder environment have higher self-interest level.People is inclined to pursue fair when encountered with orderly psysical environment,but evolved out self-interest behaviour when individuals is being in a disorder condition.Secondly,compared with viewing orderly psysical environment,people viewed disorder environment have higher self-interest level.Moreover,people is inclined to distributed more money to themselves,only leave off small part to others whatever environment condition he/she faced with.Finally,personal need for structure moderated the relationship between physical order and individual’s self-interest behaviour,and the order effect stated above is only happened among peoples with high level of need for structure.
