Porcelain on China-Chinese Export Porcelain Going to the Outside World is a book which is published by Commercial Press and edited by Zeng Lingling.It introduces Chinese export porcelain,including production,customization,transportation,export history.It also narrates how Chinese culture taking export porcelain as the carrier influence that of the West civilization.Besides,it contains some odds and ends during the period of Chinese and foreign culture exchanges as well.It is the first time that this material has been translated which is a public reading with high value of external publicity.So it belongs to publicity materials.By translating the selected text,it aims to introduce unique porcelain culture,China’s long history of foreign trade and cultural exchanges between China and the West.At present,“cultural soft power” respected highly,the state attaches great importance to the unique national culture,so the author hopes this version can be used for reference of similar culture’s external publicity.In this practical report,the material is chosen from chapter four of part one: Customization;chapter one of part two: Hunan Porcelain Blazing Blue and White: The Progenitor of Faience;chapter three of part two: Oriental Charm of Celadon;chapter four of part two: White China and Western Successor,chapter six of part two: Chinese Painting about Phoenix Tree and Landscape.The author takes skopos theory as the guide to research important and difficult points during the process of translation.The skopos theory has three important rules: skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.The “skopos rule” refers to basic purpose of the translator,the communicative purpose of the target text and the purpose of the special translation strategy or method;“coherence rule” states that the target text must be interpretable as coherent with its receiver’s situation;“fidelity rule” states that there must be coherence between the translatum and the source text.The relationship among the three rules is that fidelity rule obeys the coherence rule and the skopos rule commands these two rules in turn.The source text belongs to informative text,which conveys a lot of information to the readers,some of which professional terms on porcelain,rich characteristic Chinese words and tedious modifiers are the key and difficult points of translation.During the process of translation,under the guidance of three important rules,the author chooses appropriate translation methods and strategies to convey original implication extremely and strive to make the translatum more conform to the target readers’ cultural environment.Through this translation practice,the author realized the importance of learning the difference between Chinese and English languages.Furthermore,for the author,it deepened the understanding of the translation theory,and strengthened the ability of combining the theory and practice.The practice report consists of five parts: 1.Introduction,2.Theoretical guidance for the translation practice,3.Description of translation process,4.Study on English translation of culture of export porcelain under the guidance of skopos theory,5.Summary.
