Report On The Translation Of Finance And Economics Column Of The Economist

Nowadays,economic exchanges in the world are more frequent as the development of economic globalization and more people begin to learn about international economic situation.English finance and economics news is the platform for us to learn economic trends,which plays an important role in the global economic interaction.Because the differences in languages and culture limit the accuracy of obtaining information,so the translation of English news is in great demand in China.It is also the problem focused on by many translators and researchers.The Economist is an authoritative English journal with a wide range of influence all over the world,which is very popular among many readers at home and abroad.In this translation activity,the author chose articles about banking from the finance and economics column of The Economist(the second quarter in 2016)to translate them into Chinese.Finance and economics news has its unique language features,including obscure terminologies and many complex sentences.In this translation process,the author referred to Vermeer’s Skopos theory to guide the translation and used some translation techniques to make the Chinese version faithful and smooth.This paper report has five parts,including introduction,task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion,among which case analysis is the most important part.Based on the language features of finance and economics news,the author tried to analyze some translation techniques in lexical level and syntactic level and did a preliminary study in translating finance and economics news.In this translation activity,the author came across many difficulties and at the same time had some achievements.First,translators should learn about terminologies in finance and economics area as many as possible and focus on the international economic situation frequently.In this way,translators can master the basic knowledge and therefore achieve a better translation.Next,translators should have high bilingual transformation ability through learning continuously.In addition,in this translation activity,the long and complex sentences are the toughest part.By referring to some reference books and combining her own translation practice,the author summed up some techniques to translate comparative structure and attributive clause,namely,adding a comparative object or a subject as well as dividing a long sentence to make the Chinese version coherent and smooth.The author hopes to give some reference in translating finance and economics news in future.
