The oral English teaching of the Chinese higher vocational colleges generally has disadvantage of waste of time with low efficiency.As a result the higher vocational college students are poorer and poorer in oral English expressing,reluctant to open their mouths in English classes and lack of confidence in English learning.In such situations,the traditional teacher-centered teaching pattern has a negative effect on more and more higher vocational college students in the respect of oral class.So,based on the relating theory of Interactive Language Teaching(ILT),this study investigates the influence of ILT on higher vocational students' communicative capability.Based on the study on the application of ILT in higher vocational college oral English class,the research questions of this study are:(a)How effectively does ILT improve the vocational college students' oral English?(b)What are the vocational college students' attitudes towards the application of ILT in oral English class?The experiment,which lasted for about one semester,conducted from March,2013 to June,2013 in a higher vocational college.The subjects were the students from two classes which were selected based on their pre-test scores.One of the two classes employed ILT and was called experimental class;the other employed traditional teaching and was called control class.Throughout the whole experiment,the researcher employed quantitative and qualitative research methods for data collection and analysis.The experiment results are as follows: For one hand,with respect to the complexity degree and accuracy degree of the vocabulary and grammar structure used during oral expressing,the students from the experimental class were evidently improved,while the situation in the control class remained almost the same.For another,with respect to the learning attitude in oral English class,experimental class is better than control class.These results demonstrate that compared with traditional teaching method,ILT can effectively improve the students' English oral expressing ability and also enhance their English oral learning attitude.But due to the insufficiencies of the experimental time and the number of the experimental subjects,this research inevitably has some limitations.Structurally speaking,the thesis is made up of five chapters.Chapter One introduces the study's background,objective and significance,and the organization.Chapter Two reviews some relevant studies of ILT at home and abroad,some related definitions and the theoretical basis of ILT.Experimental researches including the design,the process is described in Chapter Three.Chapter four is concerned with whether interactive language teaching could improve the students' oral English effectively and whether ILT could change the students' learning attitude in oral English class.Chapter Five makes a conclusion of the whole thesis,which points out the main findings and the limitations of the study.Some pieces of advice for further studies are also mentioned.
