According to the Polysystem theory,all the semiotic phenomena should be regarded as systems.Although,all of these systems have different activities,they depend on each other,influence each other and work as a whole.Any polysystem is a part of a bigger polysystem which including the factors like economy,politics,culture and so on,and these factors have many influences on the translator,and translated literature.Polysystem provide us a more descriptive research perceptive,and put the research under the circumstance of culture.It makes a profound contribution to the translation studies.Children's literature is an indispensable part of the literature,while it always stays at the edge of the literature system,and always be neglected.Since the May fourth movement,plenty ofexcellent foreign children's literature have been introduced into China.These children's literature and their translations play crucial roles in the formation of Chinese children's literature.Under the theoretical framework of Polysystem,this paper aims to analyzing the translation of Chinese children's literature during the period of the May Fourth movement,and set the Chinese version of Alice's Adventures in the Wonderland from Zhao Yuanren as a case study.Studying the relationship between the children's literature and the social culture,history,literature,language,and so on.Alice's Adventures in the Wonderland is a children's book full of philosophy.It was written by Lewis Carroll and published in 1867.This book was famous for its unique language style including puns,Homophonic Words,Doggerels,and the paronomasia.The translated version of Zhao Yuanren is the first translated version of this book in China and was published in 1922.By comparing the original one and the translated one,the author find that,the translator has remained the original linguistic features of the book at the greatest extent.From the perspective of Polystsem Theory,under the cultural and social context,this thesis focus on how the different positions of the translated literature in the polysystem effect the choice of the translator in terms of the translation materials,translating strategies,and their mainly focus and responsibilities.
