| This thesis discusses the translation strategies of three Chinese translated versions of The Joy Luck’s Club.Tian Qing’s version(translated in 1992),Cheng Nai shan’s version(translated in 2010)and Li Jun&Zhang Li’s version(translated in 2016)are selected as the research objects.This thesis manages to analyzes the change and consistency of the translation strategy and language style of the three translated versions,so that it can provide some reasonable advices for the retranslation of this classical literary work.The introduction part mainly discusses the thesis’s content and the methods that would be applied in this research.A brief summary of current study situation concerned with this research topic would also be included.The first chapter introduces the The Joy Luck’s Club and its author,provides the publishing information of Chinese translated versions and gives supporting reasons for this thesis’s selecting choice.The second chapter discusses the translating strategy of "broken English"phenomenon in the perspective of back translation of the hybridized language.By analyzing related texts,this thesis finds out that the translated versions represent different tendencies as faithful forei’ngnization(Tina Qing’s version),manipulated domestication(Cheng Nai shan’s version)and neutralization(Li Jun&Zhang Li’s version).The third chapter analyzes the back translation of Chinese cultural specific items in the perspectives of language and notion.This thesis concludes that both Tian Qing and Cheng Nai shan’s version have neglected the distinctiveness of Chinese American writer’s composing style,problems as mistranslation exist in both two translating texts.Li Jun&Zhang Li’s version provides original writer’s knowledge background and writing style by making footnotes,this version also points out those misunderstanding cultural details caused by original writer.The fourth chapter discusses the translation of some specific words concerned with English culture.This thesis argues that the three translated versions adopt resistance(Tina Qing’s version),compromising(Cheng Nai shan’s version)and neutralizing(Li Jun&Zhang Li’s version)strategies when encountering the mighty cultural circle of English.This thesis argues that Li Jun&Zhang Li’s version fulfills a relatively successful mission in protecting the identity of local culture by translating those cultural specific items from English cultural circle into Chinese characters.Also,this version provides exotic cultural background by making footnotes.The concluding part summarizes the research viewpoints of this thesis and gives its expectation of future research ground concerned with this theme. |
