Comparisons Of Interpretations Of The First Movement Of Webern's Variation By Nine Performers

Anton Webern was one of the most influential composers in the twentieth century.He had inherited Schoenberg's twelve-note technique and made a great contribution to its development and extension.His music with rigour and refinement had inspired many succeeding composers and performers and the music have been recorded and interpreted for many times.The Variation for Piano was composed in1936,which was one of the most representative works of the serial music by Webern.In this piece,harmony and melody have come down but rather the expressivity with true emotions.In this dissertation,I will take this work an example to introduce the twelve-note technique at full length,and compare the interpretations by nine performers.I hope I could give people further inspirations to the expressivity.
