The author takes Webern's serial music works as the research object and focuses on pointillism technique and mirror symmetry structure as the theme, and dives in the practical analyses of pointillism and mirror symmetry structure in Concerto(Op.24)and Piano Variation(OP.27)and other related techniques to explore the music language characteristic of the composer. The thesis consists of four parts and five chapters. The first part is an introduction, which focuses on the research object of the article, the basis for the topic selection, the background, method, purpose and significance of the research. The second part is the first chapter, which elaborates Webern's life and his influence. The third part contains chapters 2 and 3,expounding theoretical researches on pointillism technique and mirror symmetry structure technique. The fourth part contains chapters 4 and 5 and the pointillism and mirror symmetry structure and related techniques in "Concerto"(Op.24))and "Piano Variations"(OP.27)are analyzed.Through analysis, six major features in Webern's creation are summarized: 1.He adopts the smallest interval structure to form pitches;2.He prefers to build series with smaller sound groups;3.He uses weaker musical intensity;4.He uses pointillism texture, symmetrical timber and melody;5.He uses short motives and short structure to depict time value;6.He infuses old musical form with new languages. The author believes that Webern's preference for pointillism and mirror symmetry structure,on the one hand, embodies his superb creative skills of breaking the shackles of traditional techniques and highlights the importance of timbre, and builds a sense of balance of structure;on the other hand it expresses the composer desire to have an ideal sound effect under the background of war and poor living conditions, which indicates the composer's pursuit and yearning for a better and harmonious life.
