A Practice Report On Simulated C-E Consecutive Interpreting Of Speeches On Heluo Culture Forum

This thesis is a practice report on the simulated C-E consecutive interpretation on the speeches from a Heluo culture forum.The report mainly looks into the reaction time in interpreting,i.e.the time interval from the source language to interpret to the target language.Reaction time has been regarded as a crucial indicator in measuring interpreters’ competence and interpreting quality.The writer,on the basis of studying professor Daniel Gile’s Effort Model and analyzing her own interpreting practice,finds out three causes for long reaction time,respectively failure to retrieve the beginning of the section,tardiness in taking notes on the end-weight sentence as well as large mental consumption in the latter half of interpreting.Correspondingly,she puts forward three countermeasures--strengthening short-term memory training,regulating,simplifying the note-taking and adjusting both mental and physical condition timely.The report lays stress on the causes and corresponding countermeasures of the long reaction time.Due to its instantaneity,it is impractical to maintain a constant reaction time in interpreting practice.However,to ensure the quality of interpreting,reaction time should be properly shortened within one’s capability.The writer hopes this report will offer useful reference to other interpreters in the future.
