| Yan Sui town was one of the nine most important towns on the border in the Ming dynasty.Its governor was established in April 1458,the second year of Tianshun period.There were mainly two reasons for the establishment of Yan Sui governor:one was border conflict between Ming and Mongolia which posed a direct influence;the other lay in internal factors about local administrative system in the Ming dynasty.Yan Sui town was dissolved in November 1643,the sixteenth year of Chongzhen period,for the invasion and occupation of Li Zicheng in Yulin area.From the first governor Xu Xuan to the last governor Zhang Fengyi,Yan Sui governor had 83 people and 81 times.The overall characteristics of Yan Sui governors presents:more Jinshi,more people from the north than the south,longer average tenure,more commissioners which were promoted to be,etc.In terms of local governance and political achievements,military achievement was outstanding and the border was managed stable.More attention was paid to develop agriculture in case of the femine and handling civil affairs with heart.Making culture and education popular and prosperous in Yulin.Qing dynasty accepted the system of Ming.Yan Sui town was established again in May 1645,the second year of Shunzhi period,as a result of weak foundation of rule and apparent contradictions and conflicts in Yan Sui region.Until the September 1662,the first year of Kangxi,when the rule of Qing dynasty in national wide was realized basically and Yan Sui area tended to be stable,Yan Sui governor was removed eventually.The total number of Yan Sui governors in Qing dynasty amounts to six.The characteristics of these governors presents:lower backgrounds,more people from Liao Dong,highly recruiting people of Han-jun Qi,longer average tenure.Yan Sui governor of Qing dynasty played an important role in suppressing rebels and pacifying civilians,which made great contributions to stability of Yan Sui regional situation. |
