| Being a part of English for Science and Technology,popular science English has played an increasingly important role in the introduction of foreign advanced science and technology,large-scale projects and popularization of science knowledge.In recent years,many English popular science works from abroad are introduced into China,but because of the lack of relevant theories and specific translation methods,a lot of problems arise from popular science works of Chinese version.The author chose seven articles concerning energy from Scientific American,and finished this report.This report is divided into five parts.In the first part,the author gives a brief introduction to background,purpose and significance;the second part is task description including the introduction of source texts and target readers;the third part is translation process including pre-translation,translation and quality control.In the process of pre-translation,the author pays attention to introducing Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory;the fourth part is case analysis.In this part,the author discusses the translation of polysemic words,proper nouns at lexical level,and the translation of passive voice,attributive clause and long and difficult sentences at syntactic level;the fifth part is conclusion.Through this translation practice,the author’s harvests are the following: firstly,the popular science English has its own uniqueness.Therefore,the target text should be a combination of science and literature;secondly,many difficulties exist in this report,such as the understanding of difficult words,the analysis of long and difficult sentences which calls for the ability of analyzing and solving problem and the spirit of innovation. |
