| This essay is based on previous studies. In regard to the Chinese limiting adverbs,"merely 只","just 就" and "only 仅",the conclusion amongst scholars is there are only 13 types of sentences that have equivalents in Vietnamese. This essay has used classic Chinese novels and Vietnamese translated editions,as well as Beijing University resources, and the Vietnamese Dictionary archive,as well as other resources to come up with comparative examples to clarify these 13 sentence structures. In surveying Vietnamese foreign students in China,I have discovered that they like to use simplified translation as a method of practicing these three restricted pronounces. They usually in their mind conceive of these three words as the Vietnamese equivalent,"Chi",but they do not comprehensively understand the particularities of each word or sentence form. Therefore this essay,by examining the practicing and acquisition of Vietnamese students, this essay will investigate the differences between these two forms.I will discuss what difficulties Vietnamese students of Chinese have in learning these words, and which sorts of problems are cause the most problems.I will show which sentence patterns cause the most difficulty for Vietnamese students of Chinese, and I will draw conclusions as to why these problems occur.I will also try to find a solution to overcome this problem, and provide an outline for practice that can overcome these specific problems for Vietnamese Students of Chinese. After this, this thesis will examine Vietnamese foreign students in Nanjing, and through surveying and examining Ji Nan university Linguistic Archive,I will illustrate the exact problems with the acquisition of "只 merely,就just,仅 only",three restrictive adverbs, and I will show how L1 influences on the construction of sentences, the use of adverbs, and the planning and construction of sentences in the second language that cause these issues.Through examining the differences in these structures, and correct usage statistical information, this essay has shown the difficulty between the sentences as follows:Not very difficult for sentences:S2,S4,S5,S6,S7,S9,S12Somewhat difficult sentences:S1,S3,S8,S11Very difficult sentences:S13At the same time,my research and statistical analysis has shown the difficulties and the particularities of Vietnamese students from elementary to advanced levels practicing and acquiring the usage of these three words. Therefore these results are of value for the compilation of teaching materials,as they provide insight into ways in which these problems may be overcome:The first chapter discusses the problem, examines the contents of the problem, and outlines the study methodologyThe second chapter is the foundation of the research, explaining and introducing restricting adverbs and introducing the 13 forms of sentences in comparison with their equivalents in VietnameseThe third chapter outlines the results of my surveying of Vietnamese students, and my breakdown of the difficulty in learnining these sentences. The fourth chapter examines the resources in the Jinan University Linguistic Archive, and points out related relative mistakes and problems that have appeared there. The fifth chapter concludes by summarizing the results of this study, and providing insight as to how these problems may be remedied and accounted for in the compilation of teaching materials. |
