This is a project report on the translation of the excerpts of the third chapter(“The Power of the Junk Drawer”)of The Organized Mind: Thinking Straight in the Age of Information Overload,which explains how to clear out the junk drawer,so as to guide how to keep thinking straight in the age of information.The author employs several examples from the daily life and finds the significance in these small details to analyze the importance of the organized mind for achieving maximum results with minimal effort.The translator has managed to express the referential information in the original informative text in plain language and to guarantee accuracy and readability of the target text in line with Katharina Reiss' s classification of text type and Hans Vermeer's skopos theory.The main contents of the report are divided into five chapters: the first chapter represents the translation project introduction,including project background,objectives,significance and structure.The second chapter is to analyze the source text,including the author introduction,publishing facts,linguistic features and main contents.The third and fourth chapter respectively are theoretical basis,difficulties in translating and the corresponding solutions.Both of them are the core parts of the report.The fifth chapter concludes with the lessons from the translation as well as the problems to be resolved.
