This thesis attempts to analyze Li Wenjun's translation of The Sound and the Fury from the perspective of hermeneutics,aiming to display how the hermeneutic motion is manifested in the translation of The Sound and the Fury.Then some translation principles will be summarized,which the author hopes will provide some suggestions for the future study of The Sound and the Fury.This is a new try,which is different from the previous studies.It also tries to find out why people like Li Wenjun's translation version so much.And then it concludes the principles on literary translation,which will help others promote the quality of literary translation.This paper first gives a brief review of the development of hermeneutic theory in the field of translation,introduces the achievements home and abroad,and combs the relevant researches of William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury and Li Wenjun's translation version of The Sound and the Fury.Then the author introduces the theoretical framework of this paper,from the development of hermeneutics to the main content and principles of hermeneutics,especially George Steiner's hermeneutic translation theory.And then the author makes an in-depth and meticulous research about Li Wenjun's translation version of The Sound and the Fury from the perspective of hermeneutic theory.This part is mainly to show that the four steps can explain Li Wenjun's translation practices very well.Finally,the author makes a summary of the whole paper.It shows the discovery of this study,the hermeneutic fourfold motion has a strong explanatory power on Mr.Li Wenjun's translation version of The Sound and the Fury.It also sums up three principles of translation of Li Wenjun under the guidance of hermeneutic theory.Finally,it illustrates the limitations of this study and some advises on future research.
