This thesis studies the effects of knowledge schema on English-to-Chinese simultaneous interpreting through experimental method.Based on previous theoretical and empirical researches, the author designed an experiment.Sixteen participants in the experiment were selected from MTI students in the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation of Beijing Foreign Studies University. They were similar in language level. All participants were randomly divided to the experimental group and the control group, each composed of eight people. They were asked to do English-to-Chinese simultaneous interpreting of a video material about the planning and designing of Curitiba.Their performances were recorded and evaluated by three raters. The author sent relative reading materials to the control group in advance for the preparation of knowledge schema, without informing the experimental group of the subject of the interpreting material in advance. In this experiment, language level is controlled as a constant;the dependent variable is simultaneous interpreting performance, and the independent variable is knowledge schema. After the experiment, the experimental data were organized and analyzed by SPSS software, and the participants were interviewed. The experimental results were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed based on the interpreting information processing schema model. The experimental results show that there is a significant positive correlation between knowledge schema and English-to-Chinese simultaneous interpreting.
