| This is a practice report on a simulated Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting(SI)with text.The materials adopted in the task include four Chinese speeches and five English speeches from the opening ceremony of the 2019 South & Southeast Asia Commodity Expo and Investment Fair(SSACEIF)and three Chinese speeches from the opening ceremony of the 5th China-South Asia Expo(CSA).The Chinese speeches in the task are characterized by formalness and carefulness whereas the English speeches bear features of vividness.The examples in the report are mainly taken from the 2019 SSACEIF.Schema theory is widely adopted in the research of the mental process of second foreign language reading and listening comprehension.Multiple achievements have been made during the past two decades in this field.The compensating and guiding functions of the schemata activated during the learning and application of a second language have received close attention from cognitive psychology and linguistics world.As a special form of SI,SI with text entails many language forms that are considered related to schema theory,such as reading,listening and speaking.Based on on-site recordings,this report attempts to explore the influence of activated schemata on the application of interpretation strategies during interpreting.Under the guidance of schema theory,this report analyzes two main challenges encountered during sight translation as preparation.Based on the challenges,interpretation methods including omission,syntactic linearity,anticipation,addition and conversion are discussed from the following three aspects: the schema within source language,the schema interpreters processed and the schema difference between speakers and listeners. |
