A Report On The Interpretation Practicum In The Zhi-Xing China Eisenhower Fellowship Program

As an interpreter,the author participated in the Zhi-Xing China Eisenhower Fellowship Program from 24th,Oct.,2016 to 9th Nov.,2016.This program is supported by China’s Ministry of Education and implemented by China Education Association for International Exchange(CEAIE).This is a report of my interpretation at a conference on "Smart Healthcare and Smart Transportation" in Neusoft.It adopted the Understanding,Memorizing,Expression and Emergency Response(UMEER)Framework of Interpretation Analysis proposed by Li Changshuan(2013).In the first chapter of this report,the author talked about the background and the process of the interpreting task.In the second chapter,the author described the pre-interpreting preparation of the task and discussed the function of the last-minute preparation,and briefly reviewed the conference.In the third chapter,the author demonstrated the methods of investigation and research through the analysis of three professional terms.Then,the author reviewed UMEER Framework and its application in interpretation.Through the analysis of cases,the author described how to use the UMEER Framework to solve the problems encountered in the interpretation.In addition,the author analyzed the cases with disturbance of fluency and the misinterpretation problems,and gave the corresponding solution.Moreover,the author distinguished different translations of three key words for different purposes.In the fourth chapter,the author summed up her gains from this practice and carried out self-reflection and pointed out the inadequacies of this report.The innovation of this report lies in analyzing the cases,which all come from the author’s own personal experience,by using the UMEER Framework proposed by Li Changshuan.The report could not only provide a reference for other master’s thesis on interpreting practice,but also provide advice and practical experience for those who wish to engage in interpretation.
