A Translation Report On International Distribution Agreement

English contract is a kind of legal document with the features of formality and objectivity.There are a lot of nominalization in contract because of its formality.But nominalization is usually not translated literally.Based on the nominalization of the grammatical metaphor proposed by Halliday,this translation report explores the translation of nominalization in International Distribution Agreement.First of all,the author introduces the translation material and talks about the significance of the topic.Then,the author presents classifications as well as translation techniques of nominalization.Afterwards,the author elaborates the translation techniques of lexical nominalizations of the International Distribution Agreement: conversion,addition,condensation and shifting.And the author also probes into two translation techniques of syntactic nominalization,which are shifting “that” clausal structure to a sentence and shifting V-ing structure to an independent clause.Finally,the author summarizes the translation experience and the problems to be solved in the process of translating International Distribution Agreement.The author expects the translation techniques described in this translation report have a positive effect on translation of nominalizations in other texts.
