Paul Hindemit(Paul Hindemith,1895-1963)was a famous German composer and compositional theorist in the early twentieth Century.His works not only inherited the excellent tradition of German music,but also formed his own personal style.As a composer,he completed the first two theoretical books<Composing Techniques>and thus formed his own theoretical system.Among the first volume of the book,the theory of harmony is the most important and the application of his composition theory and harmony principle is directly reflected in the<Symphonic Metamorphoses on Themes of Weber>,an orchestral composition.This work was created in 1943,the theme of the four Movements was originated from the works of Carl Maria von Weber,a German composer.But the harmonic technique inside this work is not entirely belong to the range of traditional harmony,but an example of the practical application of Hindemit's harmony.The author will focus on the analysis of the work's harmony technique and explain the composer how to use his own theory in his creative process to build an orchestral composition of 20th Century with the theme of 19th century's music.In addition,in order to achieve the purpose of comprehensive analysis,the author also aimed at analyzing the technical features of this work.
