Retrieval-induced forgetting(RIF)refers to the finding that when you selectively retrieve some information, the related but unretrieval information can be inhibited.Retrieval-induced forgetting is often a social process. It usually occurs during talking about with others. This occurs both for the individual doing the remembering(i.e.,with-individual retrieval-induced forgetting),as well as for individuals merely listening to those recollections(i.e.,socially shared retrieval-induced forgetting).Emotion is a key factor affecting many aspects of memory, and it is important to understand how emotion affects retrieval-induced forgetting.Unfortunately, there is no clear answer to this question.Almost all previous studies have examined RIF using strangers, and the materials are English words. On the basis of previous studies, this study take example by Barber(2012)to exploded the effects of emotion and relations between students and teachers on socially shared retrieval-induced forgetting by using emotional pictures. The studies include three experiments. In experiment 1,we examined the differences effects of emotion and relations between students and teachers on socially shared retrieval-induced forgetting to fourth-grade primary school student. In experiment 2,we examined the differences effects of emotion and relations between students and teachers on socially shared retrieval-induced forgetting to students who are in Second Year of junior school. In experiment 3,we examined the differences effects of emotion and relations between students and teachers on socially shared retrieval-induced forgetting tostudents who are in Second Year of high school. The results are as follows.(1)For the studies were tested, whether the speaker was a teacher or a student, there all existed SS-RIF;(2)For the studies, from primary school students, grade two in junior middle school and high school second-grade students, the correct recall rate for negative materials was significantly higher than that of positive materials;while the correct recall rate for positive materials was significantly higher than that of neutral materials;(3)Intimacy can moderate SS-RIF,at least among classmates we tested. In everyday life, these RIF effects should influence what information is remembered versus forgotten in individual and collective memories.
