The Research Of Guo Zi-zhang's Local Chronicles

Guo Zizhang was an elite among scholar-officials in late Ming Dynasty,he has made great achievements not only in politics bu also in literature.This article takes Guo Zizhang's local chronicles on as the object of the research.The author according to the exact records about his literatures of “Chuan Cao”,and historical materials of other local chronicles and Genus-book combs the quantity and present situation of Guo Zizhang's local chronicles.After statistics found that Guo Zizhang wrote 12 local chronicles,now only four works handed down.There are three main reasons why he is enthusiastic about compilation of local chronicles.Firstly,the imperial government encourage to compilation of local chronicles.Secondly,self-identity of social function of local chronicles.Thirdly,his own belief.Secondly,this thesis spreads out exposition on “Miscellanea of Chaozhou”,“Qian Ji”,“Ashoka Shanzhi of Mingzhou” and “The book of Xiaohou temple in Dayangzhou”.From the perspective of bibliography,The author analyse the historical background,version,style and content of Guo Zizhang's local chronicles.And to explore the value and shortage of Guo Zizhang's local Records.At last,to summarize the style characteristics,editing defects and historical value through the analysis of Guo Zizhang's local chronicles.Through the analysis of content and style,here are the features of Guo Zizhang's local chronicles: in the category setting and Content arrangement according to the request of “guide to the compilation of a book” which edited in Yongle era,but can be flexible according to the actual situation of regional characteristics;the structure of the local chronicles is complete,and the types of the local chronicles is diversity;spreads out exposition quoted much historical materials,and focused on textual research;made more comments in the book,and had a unique view.There are many malpractices of Guo Zizhang's local chronicles,such as improper style and category,too much emphasis on the records of characters and poems and so on.In the general Guo Zizhang's local chronicles have substantialcontent,it covers the historical materials of historical geography,political economy,military system,people's deeds,etc.These materials are far more extensive and detailed than historical records,and can be complementary to each other.It is an important document for the study of local history.
