There is no doubt that the translators are the subject of the whole activity in translation activities, which reflects the whole process of translation. As the most active factor, the translators need to use the subjectivity in order to realize the cultural communication. However, over a long period of time,by the influence of traditional translation theory, the translator's subjectivity has not been paid attention to,which leads to a relatively awkward position for the translator. However, with the development of translation theory, the translator's subjectivity has attracted the attention of people, and it has been developed to a certain extent. But as one of the members of the society, the translator's subjectivity is restricted by the social ideology, poetics and other external factors. At the same time,by the influence of the internal factors such as translation purposes, personal experiences and interests, the translator's subjectivity is also restricted. To strengthen the study of the translator's subjectivity is helpful to understand these factors better, and then to make the translator's subjectivity achieve better effects.Based on this understanding, this thesis takes Wolf Totem translated by Goldblatt as an example, studying the limitations of translator's subjectivity.Through the research, the limitation of the translator's subjectivity related to the external and internal factors will be demonstrated. But on the whole,Goldblatt still plays his role, which makes Wolf Totem a success. So the translation theory and strategies are still worth learning, and his contribution to Chinese literature and cultural communication is also worthy of recognition.
