| Carrying research achievements in various areas,academic books are ways for scholars to share and learn the latest research fruits.Nowadays,with frequent academic exchanges,the world has a growing demand for academic translation.As an approach to introduce foreign academic outputs,academic translation plays a significant role in scholarly communication.Comparing and analysing recent researches of academic translation,the author of this report finds studies of academic translation about cultural heritage tourism are rare.Thus,this translation practice study report does case analysis of the E-C translation process and strategies of the first two chapters of Cultural Heritage and Tourism in the Developing World whose translation process is guided by Skopos theory.It is the first time that a study is to guide Cultural Heritage and Tourism in the Developing World translation practice with Skopos theory,which analyses the translation difficulties by combining theory with practice.Difficulties in this translation practice include those at lexical,syntactical and textual levels.The difficulties at lexical level are mainly about how to translate the proper nouns and terminologies accurately to embody the academic value of the translation,and which strategies should be used to deal with the nominalization and abstract concept.At syntactical level,the difficulties lie in how to fill the gap between Chinese and English sentence structures and translate complex English sentences tactfully which are easily accepted by target readers.Difficulties at discourse level are about how to convey consistency and coherence to the translated version from the perspective of integrality.According to Skopos theory and expected target,the author adopts literal and affirmative translation methods basically to reproduce the language style of the source text.However,due to differences between Chinese and English,the author has to use conversion,amplification,division and recasting methods to fit target language.Besides,in order to reflect the consistency and coherence in the translated version,the author reappears the implicit logic and meanings so that target readers can experience the same as readers of the original text do.This report sums up the translation strategies of academic translation Cultural Heritage and Tourism in the Developing World and aims at providing several feasible suggestions for future academic translation in cultural heritage tourism field. |
