The mask of the“CuoTaiji”is one unique representative of the Chinese Nuo mask.This article will discuss the religion and belief,the local customs,the geographical environment and historical development of the Yi people,and analyze their effect on the mask of the“Cuo Taiji”.Moreover,this article will compare the mask of the“Cuo Taiji”with the mask of the “CaoGai” which belongs to the Baima Tibetan,the masks of Nuotang opera in Guizhou,the masks of Nuo opera in Anshun,and the Nuo opera in Chizhou,trying to use the research method of anthropology to find the similarity and distinguish between them.The thesis can be divided into the following parts.The introduction part states the reason why the research focuses on the mask of the“Cuo Taiji” and the significance of studying it,while it reviews the research status of the mask of the “Cuo Taiji” and introduces the research idea and research method of this article.The first part reveals the origin of “CuoTaiji” by describing the natural geographical environment and social humanistic environment where the Yi people living in;The second part concentrates on analyzing the performance characteristic and the styling features of the mask of the “CuoTaiji”.The third part combines the method of field investigation with the literature research to exploring the cultural connotation of the mask of the “Cuo Taiji”,finding the primitive worship,religious consciousness and folk culture inside it;the forth part compares the mask of the“Cuo Taiji”with the masks in other regions by using the anthropological method,which aims to digging the resemblance and difference of them in artistic characteristic,cultural connotation and social function,this can highlight the unique cultural tension of the mask of the“Cuotaiji”.
