Study On The Aesthetic And Cultural Value Of Nuo Mask

With the continuous improvement of people’s living standard, our national integration gradually accelerates, which to some extent improves the sense of Chinese national identity. But in the other hand, with the increase of commonalities between ethnic groups, unique national character is faced with different degrees of weakening, some cultures even have disappeared or face extinction. Especially the traditional handicraft culture, some traditional handicraft culture with national characteristics are disappearing because of a lack of heritage. The reason for the disappearance is a multiple one. First of all, some traditional handicrafts’process is so complicated that makes it difficult to pass on. Secondly, young people are lack of awareness and understanding of the traditional arts and crafts, some even unwilling to take the initiative to know it. They don’t want to get to know more about this culture.Nuo culture has a long history in the south and southwest China. Therefore, Nuo is not belong to a single nation. Meanwhile, it is inherited among varied nations. Nuo mask is a representative traditional handicraft in Nuo culture. It not only carries the traditional connotations of Nuo culture, possesses abundant cultural intension and value and occupies an important position traditional culture but also has a high artistic and aesthetic values.This research is about the Nuo mask. Nuo mask is a traditional craft in the Nuo culture. This research starts from the cultural and aesthetic value of Nuo mask to probe into its unique value under this two standards. Meanwhile, the connection of cultural value and aesthetic value is a breakthrough and innovation point of this paper. The first chapter mainly discusses the Maonan Nuo culture, serving as a foreshadowing of the second chapter to the fifth chapter which mainly discusses Maonan cultural characteristics of Nuo culture, Nuo mask aesthetic form, cultural value. The research methods of this study include periodical literature analysis method, comparative analysis method, practice and investigation method, the interview method.In order to grasp a deeper understanding and awareness of this topic, the four methods above should be combined and a reading of large number of relevant literature is needed to grasp the overall relationship between the aesthetic value and cultural value. Then a comparative analysis of the domestic and foreign scholars on issues related to the research results is needed to draw lessons form the existing experience. In order to enhance the practical significance of this research, field visits and interviews with related crafts heirs are conducted to get a deeper realization of the development history and current situation of the development of Nuo mask in Nuo culture.
