| This thesis selects excerpts of the book The Freedom Writers Diary as translation text analysis material.The book The Freedom Writers Diary narrates how a teacher and 150 teenagers who used writing to change themselves and the world around them in America with 8 entries written by teacher Erin Gruwell and 142 entries written by150 students.The author of this thesis has excerpted 8 entries written by teacher Erin Gruwell and 24 entries written by students from the book.The diaries written by the teacher Ms.Gruwell are very formal and logical,but the diaries written by students are filled with culture-loaded words,such as slangs and special terminologies.According to the original text language features,the author of this thesis has applied syntactic equivalence and lexical equivalence of Eugene A.Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory to illustrate its guidance for the translation practice.On the basis of deepening understanding of the original contents,the author of this thesis has summed up the translation ideas of the report.According to Functional Equivalence Theory and careful analyses towards source text language,the author of this thesis has adopted various translation skills,such as conversion,amplification,omission,combination,division,shift between active voice and passive voice.With the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory and the use of translation strategies,the author of this thesis translates the source text into target language appropriately.Accordingly,the authentic meaning of the source text can be delivered to the readers of the target text. |
