Thoughts Of Xunzi On Code Of Ethics And Its Modern Meaning

It is put forward in the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that we shall construct a system for the inheritance of outstanding traditional culture to carry forward the outstanding Chinese traditional culture,and increase its international influence.Xuncius is a representative figure of the Confucian school in the time of Warring States.His thoughts on ethics and rites constitute an important part of Chinese traditional culture.Xuncius inherited and developed further the thoughts of Confucius on “rites”.On the basis of considering the actual situation of the society at that time,he formulated an ideological system of ethics and rites with positive meanings.This paper,by mainly studying Xuncius’ thoughts on ethics and rites,explores the part that is beneficial to the ideological and political education in modern China.First of all,the feudal ethical thought by Xunzi is based on human nature theory,he put forward the origins of saints’ “rite” by interpretation of relationship among “nature,emotion,desire,mind,ethics”,an proposed that the indoctrination of “etiquette” can educate human nature.Next,the feudal ethical thought by Xunzi advocates that we can restrain the individual desires and educate people not to disaccord by means of emphasis on laws,accumulation of noble practice,education of environment and legislation,in order to realize the social stability.Finally,the etiquette-oriented education thought is of crucial guiding functions that can help improve personal accomplishment,and construct a socialist harmonious societ.
