| Scaffolding Instruction is a new trend of the current teaching development.Scaffolding Instruction can effectively make up for disadvantages in the traditional reading classroom,such as little classroom interaction,low interest for students in reading,poor English reading ability.In fact,college English reading teaching now is in urgent need of this new teaching model,which not only enables students to properly recognize English reading but also effectively improves students’ reading level and ability.Compared with foreign researches,empirical researches of Scaffolding Instruction in China are not many,especially in vocational colleges’ English reading teaching.Therefore,it is of great importance to research Scaffolding Instruction which can improve students’ reading achievement,interest and ability.In this study,combining Scaffolding Instruction with Vocational College English teaching reading,the author used qualitative and quantitative research methods,based on the ZPD and Constructivism,and combined with Scaffolding Instruction’s five procedures to carry out the experiment.Moreover,the author used reading tests of PRETCO,questionnaires and other research methods to obtain the corresponding experimental data,in order to confirm the validity of the method in Vocational College’s reading teaching.This experimental study selects two non-English major classes: experimental class and control class,totally 82 freshmen as subjects.The control class adopts the traditional reading teaching method,the experimental class uses Scaffolding Instruction for English reading.The author uses SPSS and other software to collect relevant data,students’ English reading interest and their English reading achievement will be mainly analyzed.It is concluded that the experimental class adopting Scaffolding Instruction has achieved a more obvious effect.The research results are described as follows: firstly,compared with the traditional reading teaching method,Scaffolding Instruction can effectively improve students’ English reading achievement and reading level.Secondly,Scaffolding Instruction enhances students’ reading interest,from a certain extent the classroom atmosphere is improved.Students can actively participate in the English reading class and classroom teaching.Finally,the students become a real subject of reading.Although this research confirms that Scaffolding Instruction is effective in the teaching of English reading,there is no denying that the research still has some imperfections,such as the coverage of subjects being small,research method not perfect and classroom teaching not being controlled.Therefore,in the future research,scholars should fully take these factors into account and strictly control them in a more reasonable range,in order to make efforts to obtain more scientific data. |
