| With the development of globalization,communication between countries becomes more and more frequent.Under this background,more and more Chinese universities attach greater importance to international exchanges.As the Internet becomes the most important access to information,the university webpages also become the most intuitive platform where the universities’ image be shown.Moreover,“About the University” section on the webpage is browsed frequently.At present,most university webpages are in both English and Chinese versions.There is no doubt that English webpages play an increasingly important role in international academic exchange and cooperation,international cooperation in running schools and education of international students.However,the studies on the translation strategies and methods of university webpage profiles in Sichuan Province and the effect of the translation are not sufficient.In this thesis,webpage profiles in Chinese and English versions from 14 universities in Sichuan Province are selected as the research corpora.And the author finds that the translation inadequacies are mainly attributed to three aspects: linguistic translation inadequacies,cultural translation inadequacies and pragmatic translation inadequacies.Borrowing the theoretical wisdom from the Skopos Theory and referring to the texts of the webpage profiles from 7 English and American universities,the author puts forward the corresponding improvements from linguistic,cultural and pragmatic aspects.The author hopes that the research will attract more attention about the translation quality of university webpages and arouse more awareness to improve the possible inadequacies from the three aspects so as to help Chinese universities “go out” with the assistance of target reader-orientated translation. |
