Fantasy literature has been one of the most popular literature forms all around the world, thus promoting the exchange of fantasy literature of different languages during which the translation of fantasy literature plays a momentous role. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the last book of the world-famous fantasy series Harry Potter written by J. K. Rowling.On the basis of translation practice of Chapter One, Two and Three in this book,this project report analyzes major issues and difficulties including the translation of colloquial and literary words, culture-loaded words and long sentences.Corresponding to each difficulty, the report explores feasible translation strategies and gives suggestions on how to translate the whole text, including the use of modal particles and taking circumstances as well as characters into account for translating colloquial and literary words; literal translation, transliteration,liberal translation,and transliteration plus liberal translation for translating culture-loaded words; and linear translation, reverse translation and separating translation for translating English long sentences. The report also compares the edition translated by the author and that of Ma Aixin and Ma Ainong published by People’s Literature Publishing House,points out the limitation of the former, and discusses the recommendations for future translation.
