| This report is based on the writer’s consecutive interpreting practice at China-ASEAN Expo(CAEXPO)VIP press conference.Omission has long been a widely recognized issue identified by scholars like Barik and Gile,but seldom been investigated beyond the scope of simultaneous interpreting.This report aims to identify how omission happens in this press interview interpreting practice.By consulting the interpretative theory of D.Seleskovitch,this report seeks to tackle with omission in consecutive interpreting from the perspective of deverbalization in the scenario of a VIP press interview of Mr.Somyod at CAEXPO.The author observes that the interpreter was often overwhelmed by redundant speech.The solution to this problem is to improve the ability of selecting key information and provide efficient output.Chapter one is an introduction and outlines the basic structure of the report.In the second chapter,the report presents a task description to illustrate the actual interpreting process with details and conditions.In the third chapter,the report gives a review of previous studies on consecutive interpreting and correlates it with studies on omissions in interpreting.Chapter four is a post-task evaluation given to further investigate into the problems and to give a general perception of the merits and difficulties of the practice.The writer dedicates the case study chapter using specific examples and segments from the transcript to identify problems in this interpreting task.The last part of this report evaluates the performance of the interpreter and points out where can be improved. |
