| As a widely used interpreting strategy, omission can help interpreters reduce cognitive pressure and improve the quality of interpretation. However, the efficiency of using the strategy relies on interpreters’ capability to grasp the core message of the speaker,as well as on their understanding of the difference between Chinese and English languages. This thesis mainly discusses the application of the omission strategy in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting(C-E consecutive interpreting). The author explains the definition of the omission strategy and the categorization of the omission in interpreting. With a case study on an interpreting process of Zhang Lu(a senior interpreter from the Foreign Ministry of China),the author summarizes what can be omitted in C-E consecutive interpreting. In the end,the author draws the conclusion that,if used appropriately, the omission strategy can be of great help to interpreters in C-E consecutive interpreting. |
