| In recent years,the population of Southeast Asia students who chose Kunming colleges and universities to study is constantly increasing,and the students who from Thailand are one huge group of those population.Because there are lots of differences between Thai culture and Chinese culture,such as climate,food,time concept,and educational system,etc.In addition,Thai students are faced with numerous difficulties,for example,language problem,academic pressure,having neither relatives nor friends in a strange city,hard to entering Chinese society.Hence studying cross-cultural adaption situations of Thai Students in Kunming Colleges and Universities has many realism meanings.And I have taught Thai students Chinese course in Yunnan Normal University and Kunming University of Science and Technology,so I did the surveys in classes with the 180 samples which were from the two universities.The dissertation researched four aspects,such as,motivation of studying abroad,social cultural adaptation mental adaptation and academic adaptation.The dissertation includes four chapters.The first chapter is introduction to explain the background and significance of the research,the theoretical basis,the literature review,research method and content.The second chapter is the status analysis of cross-cultural adaption,the first part introduced basic situations of object of study which found out that female population had larger proportion,most parts of students were in elementary Chinese level and their first visit to China,their time also shorter in Kunming.The second part researched the motivation of studying abroad.The main type of Thai students’ motivation is instrumental motivation,students’ integrative motivation is very faint.The third part surveyed adaption of social cultural.The students can be adapted social life well,but the range of their interpersonal communication is narrow and limited;The fourth part researched mental adaptation situations,the vast majority of students also adapted to it well and had strong feeling of homesickness,only a very few do not adapted well.The fifth part researched adaption of school work.Studentscomparatively adapt their school work,but they fear that they could not pass school exams and expect improving their professional knowledge.Finally it also shown mental adaptation was positively associated with social cultural adaptation and academic adaptation.Thus,paying attention to students’ mental health is very important.Chapter three is the dissertation made notes on the causes of students’ bad cross-cultural adaption in different culture and educational system between China and Thailand,and the students’ own reasons.The chapter four are strategies to solve the problems of bad cross-cultural adaption.The dissertation brought forward to relevant strategies to improving students’ ability of cross-cultural adaptation from three big aspects,such as enforcing the social support for the Thailand students,improving management work and quality of education for Thailand students in Kunming colleges and universities. |
