An Analysis Of Medical Translation From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory—A Case Study Based On The Translation Of Anxiety Disorders (Excerpt)

With the development of information times,knowledge is updated at an unprecedented speed and medical information witnesses an explosive growth.Now,science and technology are changing rapidly with each passing day.As a branch of science and technology,medicine also faces great-leap-forward development.Since the entry to WTO,the exchanges between China and the rest of the world are getting more and more frequent,the international status of Chinese medicine continues to rise and the market of medical translation enjoys a rapid growth.However,the researches about theories and strategies of medical translation are still relatively few.Medicine texts are highly scientific and professional,therefore the translated texts of medical English require explicit expression without errors.Medicine closely relates to people’s lives and health,while medical translation is meaningful to the development of medicine.Hence,we should pay more attention to the medical translation.As a result,the author of this paper selected a book about psychology as source text,translated the second chapter,What causes anxiety,and the fourth chapter,Relaxation Techniques for Everyone.During the translation process,the author of this paper tried to find the characteristics of medical English text and the language,had a simple explore about the skills and strategies of English-Chinese medical translation.This translation report will be divided into two parts:the first part is the English-Chinese translation of the second chapter and the fourth chapter in the selected book,Anxiety Disorders.The parallel texts included Understanding emotional problems,《焦虑性疾患的治疗》(The treatment of anxiety disorder),《解析焦虑》(Analysis of anxiety).The second part is mainly used to clarify the problems,solutions and translation skills in the process of translation.Through this practice,the author of this paper hopes to improve the capability of translation,have a command of the characteristics of English medical text,and know more about the theories and strategies about medical translation.
