This essay is a case study of the Taiwanese Opera artist LIAO Chiung-Chih.LIAO Chiung-Chih is the most influential Taiwanese Opera artist in Taiwan since the 1980s.Sh e is known to the Taiwanese for the character Ku Dan and is dubbed as "the best Ku Dan performer in Taiwan" as well as "The best crying woman in Taiwan".This article is based on the field observation and interviews with relevant figures,using some related disciplines such as musicology,sociology and history,in order to give an objective elaboration and research on the personal experience of LIAO Chiung-Chih.Her life has been inextricably linked to Taiwanese Opera.It has witnessed the development of Taiwanese Opera:from outdoor stage,indoor stage,radio Taiwanese Opera,TV Taiwanese Opera,to the modern theatre Taiwanese Opera.In the long history of Taiwanese Opera shines Liao’s drama-like life."Drama is like life,and life is like drama" is a real picture of her life.The object of this thesis was to investigate her contributions to the inheritance and development of Taiwanese Opera,firstly,Liao is an inheritor of the Taiwanese Opera;secondly,Liao is an innovator of the Taiwanese Opera;thirdly,Liao is an envoy of friendship in communicating and spreading the Taiwanese Opera;Finally come to three conclusions about the relations between her and Taiwanese Opera.Liao is an envoy of friendship in communicating and spreading the Taiwanese Opera;Liao is connected to the Taiwanese Opera.She devotes herself to its development,and makes a great contribution to its inheritance and development,as well as communication and discussion.This article aims not only to introduce the social significance of Liao’s contribution to the Taiwanese Opera;more importantly,by introducing her contribution to the Taiwanese Opera,this article wants to attract more scholars to think about contemporary inheritance and development of traditional Chinese music.Traditional music culture needs successors like LIAO Chiung-Chih,who can develop while preserving previous thoughts,and develop while protecting the unique quintessence of traditional arts.
