| With Rapid globalization,a large number of domestic works have swarmed into international stage.Film and television drama,as a popular form of entertainment, plays a significant role in inheritance of culture and history.Due to linguistic disparity, however, most people in foreign countries fail to understand the original meaning and even artistic conception.Subtitling translation is therefore, taken as a medium of cultural transmission.Since the subtitling translation of film and TV drama features time limit, space limit and colloquial style,it is difficult to transfer complete meaning literally. And the main purpose is to convert the source language into target language to the largest extent within all those limitations.Generally, almost all translation works should abide by functional equivalence, which was introduced early by Eugene A.Nida in 1960s,including formal equivalence and dynamic equivalence.Certainly, all translators should bear in mind what they seek for is the closest equivalence rather than absolute equivalence. The thesis aims to analyze the writer’s subtitling translation of Legend of Mi Yue based on functional equivalence and share translation strategies used in the translation process. The thesis consists of four parts:Part one is the description of translation project;Part two is translation process description;Part three talks about case study and the focus of the thesis, which introduces the difficulties and strategies during translation process;Part four is the conclusion and experience. |
