The documentary Mysteries of the Ancient Tombs in Yue Kingdom records the rescuing excavation of the mound tombs in Xiaoshan district in Hangzhou. The excavation lasted 15 months, and 922 cultural relics in 37 mound tombs from Shang dynasty to the beginning of the Warring States Period have been excavated. The project is of great significance in studying the funeral customs in Wu and Yue kindoms in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period and in the development of China’s ceramics. It has been nominated as “China’s Most Significant Archaeological Finding in 2012” and entered the final appraisal stage of “China’s Top 10 Archaeological Findings in 2012”.The writer creates a mock C-E consecutive interpreting of the documentary, with the aim to explore the difficulties and solutions in the interpretation. The thesis takes the skopos theory as its theoretical framework. The writer of the thesis first summarizes the interpreting strategies such as literal interpretation, addition, omission, restructuring, etc.put forward by the scholars both home and abroad, and then discusses her own application of the interpreting strategies guided by the skopos theory.According to the skopos theory, any interpretation activity of the interpreter is guided by the skopos. Therefore,in the analysis of the typical examples, the writer tries to explore the skopos of the initiator, the speaker, the target text and the interpreter. The writer always focuses on the skopos of the interpretation and regards the expectation of the target audience as a key element, choosing the interpretation strategies flexibly.By writing this thesis, the writer aims to provide some references for the interpretation activities in archaeology, and to further promote the internationalization of the research findings in China’s archaeology and the spread of Chinese culture.
