The complex sentences are common language phenomena in English.Because of the complex structure, numerous modifiers, and great difference between English and Chinese sentence structures, translation of complex sentences becomes one of the difficulties in E-C translation. From semantics to stylistics,Nida’s functional equivalence theory reproduces the source language information with the closest natural equivalence in translation,so that the target readers can on the whole understand the original text in the same way as the original readers do.This theory is appropriate for the E-C translation of complex sentences. This paper, taking the United States Navy Diving Manual Chapter IV 18-2.2 to 18-11.3 for example, studies the translation of the complex sentences by analyzing English complex sentences featured by conjunctive words, varied subordinate clauses, and the preposition of sentence focuses. And in combination with translation practice, the translation strategies and methods of English complex sentences are studied. The author believes that construe, reverse, split translation and comprehensive translation can be used to translate the complex sentences.
