"Obtaining Knowledge By Investigation Of Things" From Sung People Of The Painting "Water"

As one of the important fields in the history of Chinese idealist philosophy,the spirit of obtaining knowledge by investigation of things has been explained differently by scholars from various generations.Although it is quite normal for the academic circle to talk about the influences it has on paintings of Song Dynasty,how the painting style formed in Song Dynasty remains the most complex.The spirit of obtaning knowledge by investigation of things is one of the most important ones that must be admitted and can not be neglected,though we must respect the logic by which paintings develop at the same time.Besides,this idea was general even among the public and also became a method introduced by painting theorists at that time to prove that painting must consider both the idea and the nature of the thing which will appear on the paintings.Since Chen Brother and Mr.Zhu Xi are representatives and masters of the Northern Song Dynasty and the Southern Song Dynasty,this essay will take water in the paintings as an example and focus on the facts that people in Northern Song Dynasty paid more attention to the idea of water,reflecting their investigation and practice,while people in Southern Song Dynasty paid more to its nature,reflecting artistic conception more.
