The Study Of The Secular Women’s Pibo In The Tang Dynasty

Pibo is one of the important female costumes in the Tang Dynasty.As far as we know,women in the Northern Dynasties already had wore Pibo.By Sui Dynasty,the phenomenon of women wearing Pibo was gradually increasing.But it was not until the Tang Dynasty that it became popular.This thesis takes the secular women of the Tang Dynasty as the object of study,and analyses the source and development of Pibo.Furthermore,through collecting and collating a large number of graphic and literary materials,which can be proved by each other,the thesis intends to reveal the social,historical and cultural significance of it.First of all,we define the scope of this paper from the aspects of the origin,shape and name of Pibo.Secondly,the thesis differentiate the fashion and popularity of Pibo,and refers to the reason why Pibo was popular in the Tang Dynasty for a long time.Thirdly,it analyzes the relationship between the popularity of Pibo and the status of women in Tang Dynasty.Finally,we discuss the cultural and psychological consciousness behind Pibo from three different aspects:male aesthetics,female self-physical consciousness and psychology of seeking immortal.With the knowledge and research methods of sociology,archeology,art,historical geography and iconography,this thesis systematically studies the Pibo of secular women in the Tang Dynasty and puts forward some new opinions.Hoping it will be helpful for the Chinese traditional costume culture.
