Shidong Miao Costumes Embroidery Patterns Rescearch And Design

Patterns are one of the most carriers of recording and inheriting Miao traditional culture,yet embroidery comes as a significant means to pattern representation,and embroidery patterns from Shidong region are arguably the most exquisite ones,amongst all Miao costumes,which greatly features deformation and exaggeration.This paper summed up and analysed Miao traditional patterns and embroidery techniques,and put forward three innovative elements,these elements being:colour,graphs,and shading,based on the understanding of local features and characteristics,which endowed Miao patterns with modern characteristics.Given the visual effect vary a lot due to the different techniques used on fabrics,the author experimented on fabrics by representing different patterns,and ended up putting them into garment style design.This paper also analysed barbola techniques and innovative structures,yielding the finding that the folding element of embroidery resembles that of draping cutting of garment.Therefore,this research has formed a series of innovative structural design on garments,based on barbola techniques,with combining patterns,fabrics,and styles.
