Courante,an indispensable movement of a suite,is a popular dance form in Europe during the Baroque era.In The Well-Tempered Clavier(J.S.Bach),segments with courante elements and style are included.In this article,these segments are discriminated,then centrally analyzed and studied,to find the regular pattern of this characterized dance music,giving out the performance treatment of it.This article consists of 3 parts.The first part introduced the history and basic characteristics of courante,including its definition,distinguishing features,and developments on the clavier music history.In the second part,courante segments in The Well-Tempered Clavier are discriminated,analyzed and studied.In the last part,the basic principles of performing these segments were concluded,including common principles,overall attention points,and specific performing analysis.
