This article analyzes the errors in the vowels and consonants of Tamil learners in the process of Chinese acquisition.The study first compares the phonetic systems of Tamil and Chinese in a synchronic perspective,finds the similarities and differences between them,and makes a preliminary assessment of learners’ possible biases.Then use Praat to analysis on the collected audio files,and compare the acoustic parameters such as waveform,formant,fundamental frequency curve,and VOT values with the speaker whose native language is Chinese,and find out the differences among them and give out the solution and teaching strategies.The article makes a elaborated analysis of the two major parts——vowels and consonants in Chinese phonetic system.The tones are omitted.Through the analysis,the following characteristics of the bias are found: 1.High vowels [?],[?],[y],and vowels [?] with more errors.The source of the bias is the tongue position lack inadequate and the round lip is not enough;2.The aspirated sound and non-aspirated sound is a poor part,the main reason is the lack of understanding of the difference between the characteristics of them;3.Nasal consonants,voiced consonants and the low vowels [a] and post-high vowels [u] that exist in Tamil language have a low rate of bias,which is the result of positive translational influences in their native language.Afterwards,the teaching recommendations are put forward based on the conclusions: 1.The phonetic display should be intuitive and the teaching materials should be visualized;2.The teaching methods should be diversified and the teaching process should be interesting;3.The lectures should be exquizite and ensure plenty of practice,encourage students to speak;4.The phonetic learning should be scientific and perceptual experience should be datamation.The reasons why the Tamil learners make pronounciation mistakes in the process of Chinese acquisition are the focal point of this article.Thinking about how to formulate feasible solutions based on the reasons of errors is the expand direction of this article.The goal of this reaserch is to help Tamil learners to resolve phonetics barriers as quickly as possible in the early stage of pronounciation learning,and paving the way to follow-up Chinese learning.
