With the rapid development of Information Technology(IT)and the popularization of IT-based education,blended learning mode(BLM)under the background of IT has emerged.At present,employing student-centered teaching serves as the key point of foreign language teaching reform.And,as one of the most important affective factors,foreign language learning motivation can influence foreign language learners,which has been one of the research directions in the field of applied linguistics.Thus,the investigation into English learners' motivation under the IT-based BLM is conducive to the development of China's college English teaching.Both the quantitative and qualitative research methods are employed in this study to investigate the following research questions:(1)What is the current situation of English learners' motivation in universities?(2)Does BLM have effects on English learners' motivation in universities? If yes,what are the affecting factors? If no,what are the reasons?(3)How to motivate English learners in universities under BLM? The research subjects are 180 first-year students(admitted in 2016)majoring in English from 6 classes and 1 teacher in a certain university of foreign languages.And this study adopts questionnaire,interview and classroom observation for data collection.It can be found that the instrumental motivation is the major motivation of English learners from 6 classes.Three motivational types are higher than the average and the motivational intensity is considerably high.After a semester,three motivational types and intensity in blended learning group(BLG)have promoted separately.Especially,the integrative motivation has increased significantly and become the major motivation of students from BLG.According to the results,six affecting factors can be finally concluded,that is,web-based learning resources,design and application of learning platform,cooperative learning,meta-cognitive strategy,teaching strategies and methods and teaching activities.The final part of this thesis puts forward several motivational strategies under BLM.The results can demonstrate that employing IT-based BLM is feasible and superior,which can positively motivate foreign language teaching and learning.
