Phonetic learning is the basic role for English acquisition. The learner who has a good mastery of phonetics will improve himself or herself in integrated skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Therefore,as for English teaching and learning in our country, phonetic learning and teaching should be deserved more attention. However,a few areas in China, some students often receive interference from their native language when they study English phonetics, and then, language negative transfer occurs. In order to learn a foreign language well, students are expected to pay attention to the language negative transfer from our own mother tongue and dialect. What's more, teaching advices or effective teaching strategies should be conducted, which are fit for different areas to reduce or avoid language negative transfer, thus promoting the learners' learning efficiency on foreign language.Hakka dialect,as one of the seven major dialects in China,is spoken by a large population.Although the phonetic systems in most Hakka areas are the same, the diversity for each area can't be eliminated. So far, some scholars have studied Hakka dialect transfer on English phonetics acquisition. But in fact, these studies are theoretical, and their main research objects are the south of Jiangxi Province,Guangxi Province and the north of Guangdong Province. There is little research on the western of Fujian Province. Therefore, this thesis takes Hakka students who come from Wuping NO.1 middle school in the western of Fujian Province as subjects, through the tools like questionnaire, interview and phonetic test to analyze the language transfer when they are learning English sounds.Furthermore, some effective advices are proposed for English phonetics' teaching and learning in the western of Fujian Province. To be specific, this study contains two issues: The first one is to investigate whether the phenomenon exists that language negative transfer affects the acquisition on English.Second,if the phenomenon does have, try to find out the concrete aspects. It is found that: 1.Language negative transfer does exist on the acquisition of English phonetics from Hakka dialect.2.It is more evident that students suffer more negative transfer about consonants than that of vowels, and the master of monophthong is inferior to diphthong.3.The students keep a minimal conscious state that English phonetics is really important.According to the issues, this thesis comes up with some teaching suggestions on English phonetics, which is aimed at improving the Hakka students' English phonetic pronunciation and their English study in the western of Fujian Province.
